How to Use This Calculator

Enter your Raw Score and Total Points for an instant percentage and letter grade. Use the Custom Scale tab to set your own grade cutoffs. The Curve tab adds a flat curve and shows your z-score. The Professional tab handles weighted categories (homework, midterm, final), calculates GPA points, and tells you the minimum score needed on your final to achieve your target grade.

Formula

Percentage = (Raw ÷ Total) × 100

Weighted Grade = Σ(Score × Weight) ÷ Σ(Weight)

Needed on Final = (Target × Total Weight − Pre-final Points) ÷ Final Weight

Example

87/100 = 87% → B+ | Weighted: HW 90% (20%) + Midterm 82% (30%) + Final 88% (50%) = 86.6% → B | To get A (90%), need 92% on final

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A: 90-100%, B: 80-89%, C: 70-79%, D: 60-69%, F: below 60%. With plus/minus: A+ ≥ 97, A ≥ 93, A- ≥ 90, B+ ≥ 87, B ≥ 83, B- ≥ 80, etc.
  • The 7-point scale requires higher scores for each grade: A ≥ 93%, B ≥ 86%, C ≥ 79%, D ≥ 72%. It is more common at medical schools and some universities.
  • Multiply each component score by its weight, sum the products, then divide by the total weight. Example: 90% homework (20%) + 82% midterm (30%) + 88% final (50%) = (18+24.6+44)/1 = 86.6%.
  • Use the Professional tab. Enter your current component scores and weights and a target course grade. The calculator solves for the minimum final exam score needed.
  • A flat curve adds a fixed number of points to every student's raw score. The Curve tab also shows your z-score relative to the class mean and standard deviation to indicate where you stand.
