How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the number of guests.
- Select appetite level — average (3–4 slices) works for most gatherings.
- Use the Mixed Group tab if you have a combination of kids and adults.
- The Professional tab lets you choose pizza size, estimate vegetarian needs, and calculate total cost.
Formula
Total Slices = Guests × Slices per Person
Pizzas Needed = ⌈Total Slices ÷ Slices per Pizza⌉ (always round up)
Example
10 guests, average appetite (3.5 slices), large pizza (8 slices): 10 × 3.5 = 35 slices ÷ 8 = 4.4 → order 5 pizzas.
Frequently Asked Questions
- The general rule: 2–3 slices for a light appetite (snacking, other food served), 3–4 slices for an average appetite, and 4–5 slices for a hungry crowd or if pizza is the main course. Kids under 8 typically eat 1–2 slices.
- A standard large pizza (14 inches) is cut into 8–10 slices. Medium (12") usually has 6–8 slices. Extra large (16–18") has 10–12 slices. Party-sized (24") can have up to 16–18 slices. Check with your specific pizzeria — cuts vary.
- For 20 adults with an average appetite (3.5 slices/person): 70 total slices ÷ 8 slices per pizza = 8.75, so order 9 large pizzas. For a hungry crowd (4.5 slices): 90 ÷ 8 = 11.25, so order 12 pizzas.
- A common rule: 1 pepperoni or classic pizza for every 2 specialty pizzas. Always have at least 1 vegetarian or cheese-only option. About 15–20% of guests at a typical party prefer vegetarian pizza.
