How to Use This Calculator
- Enter number of children and hours needed.
- Select your location and youngest child age group.
- Use the Professional tab to factor in CPR certification, special needs, and tax guidance.
Formula
Base rate = Location base × Number of children + Infant premium
Infant premium: +$5/hr. CPR certified: ×1.15. Special needs: ×1.35.
Example
2 toddlers, suburban, 4 hours: $15 × 2 = $30/hr. Total = $30 × 4 = $120.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Average rates in 2025: urban areas $18-22/hr for one child, suburban $15-18/hr, rural $12-15/hr. Add $3-5/hr per additional child. Infants command a $5/hr premium due to higher care demands.
- Yes. CPR and First Aid certification typically commands a 10-20% premium. It is a valuable safety qualification especially for families with infants.
- If you pay a babysitter more than $2,800 per year (2025 threshold), they may be considered a household employee and you may need to file a Schedule H with your taxes and potentially issue a W-2.
- A nanny share is when two families split the cost of one nanny who cares for both families' children simultaneously. Each family typically pays 60-70% of a solo nanny rate, saving money while the nanny earns more.
