How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the length of each wall that will have cabinets.
  2. Choose cabinet type (base only, wall only, base+wall, or full with tall units).
  3. Results show linear feet and countertop area. Use Extended tabs for L-shaped, U-shaped, and galley layouts. Professional tab adds cost by tier.

Formula

Linear Feet = Sum of all wall lengths receiving cabinets

Countertop Sq Ft = Base LF × 2 ft (25-inch depth with overhang)

Example

Example: L-shaped kitchen, 10-ft wall + 8-ft wall → 18 lf base, 18 lf wall cabinets. Stock tier at $225/lf → $4,050 cabinets. Laminate countertop 36 sq ft × $27 = $972.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • A linear foot (lf) is simply one running foot along the wall. A 10-foot wall has 10 linear feet of base and 10 linear feet of wall cabinets. Pricing is per linear foot of installed cabinets.
  • RTA (ready-to-assemble) cabinets run $100–200/lf; stock cabinets $150–300/lf; semi-custom $300–600/lf; custom cabinets $500–1,500/lf. These figures include the cabinet boxes only — add countertops and installation separately.
  • Countertop area = linear feet of base cabinets × 2 (for a standard 25-inch deep countertop plus overhang). Add extra for an island or peninsula.
  • NKBA recommends 15–18 inches of clearance between countertop and wall cabinet bottom. Wall cabinets are typically 12 inches deep and 30 or 36 inches tall.
  • L-shaped and U-shaped kitchens need one corner cabinet per inside corner. Options include a lazy Susan (36 inches on each leg), a blind corner unit, or a magic corner pull-out. Allow 36 inches of space along each wall meeting at the corner.
